LDTCC FILMING IN BANDA BAO (CURACAO)

Some wonderful pictures shared of students (ages 8 to 13) of the Liberata Dance Theatre Curacao Connection Foundation (LDTCC), LDT's daughter company in Curacao. The piece included dancing, singing and acting about the beauty of Curacao and the importance of caring for nature in general. The filming was done recently on Saturday, June 30, 2012 on different locations in Banda Bao. One of the pictures, in the dramatic white costume is the very dynamic President of LDTCC, Greta Trapenberg, also a great actress and a performer during our Annual Summer Dance/Theater performances. Rudsel D'Antonia, the teacher and choreographer of this project, can also be seen in a yellow shirt on another picture. Rudsel and Lila Leito teach weekly classes to the students of LDTCC and both also perform in our Annual Summer Dance/Theater shows. Lila is also a very active LDTCC boardmember.

The situation:
On Sunday March 4, 2012 homes and buildings collapsed and flattened in the capital of the Republic of Congo after an arms depot exploded due to a short-circuit which ignited a fire, the second since 2009, killed at least 300 people, injured around 1,500, and left 12,000 homeless. Many people were entombed and crushed under the rubble. The shock waves were so devastating that it ruptured windows in the neighboring capital of Kinshasa, which is separated from Brazzaville by the 3-mile-wide (4.8-kilometer-wide) Congo River. Now month’s later Ground zero is still filled with twisted metal, broken bricks, disfigured homes; and the Congolese people are filled with disappointment, anger, and despair. The people from Mpila are homeless with nowhere to go, and are malnourished. Congo is in need of our help.
Liberata Dance Theatre Inc. in association with The UCRC, United Communities for the Republic of Congo is a network of artist, teachers, friends, family, and community established to raise financial aid for the people devastated by the recent tragedy in The Republic of Congo. We aim to build awareness, and assist in the efforts to supply food, water, medical supplies, and any assistance that can be given to families who are now homeless. As a united family we are coming together from different regions of the US (East, West, North, and South) to devise a special fund-raiser that will not only benefit those in Congo Brazzaville, but build stronger alliances with the communities that already exist. A picture is worth a thousand words, but the mere comprehension of what HAS happened and what IS to come is unimaginable. TOGETHER! UNITED! WE CAN!

Greta Trapenberg, LDTCC's President Visits New York City

Greta at Streetcar Named Desire.
Greta Trapenberg, The President of the Liberata Dance Theatre Curacao Connection Foundation (LDTCC) visited New York City from 4/6 to 4/16/12. Besides enjoying the city’s many beautiful sights and cultural events, tentative plans were made to get LDT and LTDCC together during the summer of 2013, to celebrate LDTCC’S five year anniversary in Curacao. The plan is for the two groups to exchange ideas, conduct workshops and to perform in Curacao and hopefully in Aruba and Bonaire, to start with.

LDT's 5 Year Celebration Testimonials

LDT’S Five Year Celebration Testimonials (12/2 and 12/3/11)
It was an upbeat performance from the beginning to end – great music, brilliant acting and superb dancing.  My daughter and I enjoyed.  The entire cast’s energy was electric – you could feel it.  Myrena Sint Jago, the lead performer in the show, did a fabulous job directing and choreographing it.  If you didn’t see,

YOU MISSED A GREAT SHOW Ahmat Jallo (Actor)

Hi LDT,
I wanted to congratulate you both on a beautiful job well done; you are really "telling the story". I was very happy I went (Myrena, I was thrilled to see you dance again and was telling Francois about your incredible energy; GOD bless.) I had to run to meet Francois so wasn't able to stay after the performance, but wanted to thank you for sharing with me.
Rhina Cuevas (Musician; music Therapist and Assistant Principal)

The Liberata 5-year concert was a joyous celebration of life and art; a true example of spoken word history, or herstory.
Julia Campanelli (Actress)

The show of Liberata seen on December 3rd was fantastic. My family and I enjoyed every minute of it. It went from the soulful international music to the favorite classical music of our time. Watching the play myself it reminded me of my past struggles and how I overcame them. In addition, I saw that my son enjoyed the play too, so maybe not only is this play for adults it may appeal to teenagers too. When I read about the actors’ biographies I am happy to see that my country was represented in the play. I would recommend this play to everyone because they should have the same great experience that I did.
Joyce Wynaar
I enjoyed the most recent performance of the Liberata DanceTheatre Company immensely. Myrena has come into her own with her unique and exciting choreography. Her works are not only exciting but also educational as she strives to enhance awareness of importance of social issues. The dancers and musicians were also outstanding. My only lament is that her work is not reaching a larger audience.
Rose Crayton (Educator; Social Activist)
